Ahau has all the elements you expect from Tulum’s hippy scene. The beach daybeds are comfortable and generously spaced, the open-air restaurant serves simple, satisfying dishes alongside fresh juices, and the menu balances comfort food with lighter, healthier options at prices that feel reasonable for the area. Above the restaurant sits a large mezzanine washed in soft natural light, where daily yoga classes quietly unfold.

The lobby next to the restaurant acts as a casual social hub, a place where locals, expats and guests from neighbouring hotels drift in to charge their phones, catch up on work or simply fall into conversation. It has that easy, communal energy that makes the hours slow down just a little.

The hotel also offers kite-surfing lessons— challenging, yes, but incredibly rewarding! Mauricio is a wonderful instructor, patient, encouraging and genuinely fun, making the whole experience memorable.

As for their enthusiasm for towel sculptures… let’s just say it adds its own playful note to the charm.
