When we were hunting for a quick farewell bite with a friend, he didn’t hesitate. El Parnita was the answer. Casual, convivial, and effortlessly cool, this beloved antojería in Roma Norte specialises in exactly what the name suggests—a place for little cravings.

Take a seat in the outdoor seating area if you can. The pavement tables are perfect for slow afternoons and cold micheladas. Served in brightly coloured tin mugs, they arrive icy cold, sharp with lime, layered with chilli, and dangerously refreshing.

On arrival, a plate of crisp jícama stalks is placed down without ceremony—cool, juicy, and impossible not to nibble while glancing at the menu. What follows is a parade of comfort and colour; tacos generously packed with flavour, hearty tortas (Mexico’s take on a sandwich) that are truly satisfying, and tlacoyitos, which are plump, oval-shaped corn masa parcels that may not win beauty contests but more than make up for it with their deeply savoury pleasure.

The zucchini blossom taco immediately caught the eye, delicate yet full of character. The gooey Oaxaca cheese arrives molten and elastic, with onion, avocado, and an irresistible mix of salsas that brought everything together. Other highlights included the Carmelita taco, with breaded shrimp, red onion, mayonnaise, lettuce, and salsa, and the Panelita taco, where panela cheese and black beans form a quietly perfect base for layers of heat and acidity.
In the end, it all comes back to the salsas. They shift constantly in flavour, colour, and intensity, keeping the menu alive. There’s always a daily soup, seasonal tacos, plus salads and desserts that reward curiosity. A proper habanero salsa, bright, fiery and unapologetic, reminds you exactly where you are.
