Casablanca Artist Guest House in Cartagena

Casa Blanca is a beautifully intimate guest house created by interior decorator Carlos Cubillos, whose thoughtful, personal touch is felt in every corner.  From the moment of arrival, the atmosphere is disarmingly warm.   You don’t simply check in; you are received.  Guests are made to feel a genuine sense of belonging.   The atmosphere creates a sense of being truly at home; visitors are not just guests but become part of a larger family shared with staff, other travellers, and Carlos himself.

The house is located in the San Diego district of Cartagena’s old city.   Casa Blanca is just beyond the main tourist flow; close enough to walk everywhere with ease, yet far enough away to feel calm and residential.

The house comprises four guest rooms, a small pool, and a rooftop deck. Art anchors the space. Paintings and works by the quietly powerful Colombian artist Pedro Ruiz line the walls, adding emotional depth and a strong sense of place to the house.   His imagery — boats, rivers, landscapes carrying history — feels quietly resonant here.   Paired with the soft interiors and filtered light, Casa Blanca becomes a refuge from Cartagena’s heat and intensity.

Many days are spent foregoing the outside world and passing the time in a hammock, simply being. Much of this ease comes down to the staff, whose genuine warmth and family-like presence shape the rhythm of the house without ever intruding.

Mornings begin with the included breakfast, followed by warm sun, lounging by the pool.  Even now, writing this, I can feel that stillness return.
