Crepes & Waffles, Delicious Food with Strong Values

Crepes & Waffles is one of Colombia’s most recognisable restaurant brands — and for good reason.  What began in Bogotá in 1980 has grown into a nationwide favourite, with over 200 locations across Colombia and a handful in Ecuador and Mexico.  It’s not a gourmet destination, but that's not its aim. Instead, it consistently serves good food, reasonable prices, and a menu broad enough to please everyone at the table.   This explains its lasting popularity with families and groups of friends.

The menu is vast and comforting: soups, salads, pancakes, sweet and savoury crêpes, waffles, ice creams, and shakes — all familiar Colombian favourites prepared with care. It’s the kind of place you choose when no one can quite agree, and somehow everyone leaves satisfied. You want something filling without fuss, and you leave feeling you’ve received good value for your money.

But the real substance of Crepes & Waffles lies just beneath the surface.  The company is women-owned and B Corp–certified, with a social model that has quietly been in place for decades.  More than 90% of its workforce are women, many of whom are heads of households or single mothers with no age limits.  Hiring is based on character rather than prior experience, and employees receive a living wage, private healthcare, interest-free housing loans, educational support, and access to arts and wellness programmes.

The sourcing tells a similar story. Crepes & Waffles works directly with over 1,000 rural families across Colombia, establishing direct-purchase supply chains rooted in continuity rather than extraction. These arrangements ensure fair prices and stable purchasing, including for communities transitioning away from illicit crop cultivation.

In Cartagena, the recent San Pedro Claver location is more spacious and has a charming rooftop lounge where you can enjoy stunning views of the old city with your meal.  Vegetarian and vegan options are plentiful, and breakfast is served daily until 11:00 am, making it a convenient, feel-good choice at any time of day.

Crepes & Waffles shows that a food can be welcoming, budget-friendly, and truly ethical — that strong values need not announce themselves loudly to be felt.
