D.R. Harris – Historic British Apothecary with Royal Warrants

Established in 1790, D.R. Harris & Co. embodies a quintessential British sense of tradition and elegance. Family-owned for generations and rooted in St. James’s, the shop has refined its skills for over two centuries.  Many products remain made by hand, prepared, and assembled on site using methods that have changed little over time — a continuity of care that only deepens the charm.

Inside, the shelves read like an inventory from another era, yet nothing feels outdated. Lavender water, triple-milled soaps, colognes, shaving creams, skin lotions, aromatherapy oils, bath sponges, and bone-handled toothbrushes with natural bristles are neatly arranged, functional objects elevated by quality. These are little luxuries you don’t strictly need but feel entirely justified in taking. Packaging is practical, scents remain fresh, and everything has a clear purpose. Even ethical concerns seem naturally integrated rather than highlighted, with products crafted and produced without animal testing as standard practice.

You walk in the footsteps of giants when you shop here. In 1938, D.R. Harris was awarded the Royal Warrant as Chemists to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. A second followed in 2002 from HRH The Prince of Wales. A rare double honour that affirms what their loyal customers have always known: some traditions are worth preserving.
