Miramar, Llançà – Seaside Fine Dining on the Costa Brava
In the coastal town of Llançà, just under an hour north of Barcelona and moments from the French border, Miramar sits directly on the promenade, facing the marina and the open sea. This is the flagship restaurant of Paco Pérez, and one of the Costa Brava’s most refined dining rooms.
What brought us here, and what we appreciated most, was the ability to dine à la carte. Not every evening calls for a three-hour tasting menu, and Miramar understands that. The flexibility alone made the experience feel generous and considerate.
Happiness arrived early in the form of the amuse-bouche. A carefully arranged selection of delicate, crunchy delights, light and precise, setting expectations without overwhelming. Then came the flaky, decadent, and dangerously good bread, the sort that one rarely shows restraint towards.
The dining room is elegant and tranquil, opening towards the sea. White tones mirror the horizon beyond the windows, while the plates add contrast and spark imagination. The presentation draws evident influence from Catalan Surrealism, echoing the visual language of Joan Miró and Luis Buñuel, with a lyrical undertone that recalls the poetry of Federico García Lorca. It’s expressive, but never theatrical.
During our visit, Miramar was marking its 75th anniversary with an expanded menu that revisited dishes from its earlier chapters. Among them were the millennial egg, black trumpet parmentier, and angulas. Our favourite was Rebirth from the Turn of the Millennium; an oyster tartare topped with caviar and apple foam, served at precisely the right temperature. The oysters were extraordinarily creamy, and the interplay between brine, acidity, and gentle sweetness felt effortlessly balanced.
Another standout was the tuna carpaccio with sea urchin, quail egg yolk, and citrus. At Miramar, standing out is no small achievement, and this dish achieved it with clarity.
The service perfectly matches what you'd expect from a two-star seaside hotel: kind, attentive, and patient staff who are neither hovering nor distant. The only thing we wished for was a bag of bread to take home. It truly was that good!
