L'Eggs Barcelona

A few blocks uphill from Casa Milà, at the top of Passeig de Gràcia, L’EGGS is the more relaxed sibling in the universe of chef Paco Pérez, best known for the three-Michelin-starred Miramar.  This is not a fine-dining destination; it’s lighter, more casual, and designed for repeat visits rather than reverence.  I am running a few minutes late; my previous meeting is running over.

As the name indicates, eggs anchor the menu, but the culinary offerings go far beyond mere novelty.  Locals visit as much for the cocktails as for the food, although we concentrated mainly on the food.  The  Torrija de Santa Teresa was the reason we returned two, maybe three times in the same week.  Served warm with vanilla coffee ice cream, it was exceptional.  Custardy and creamy, with caramelised edges and profoundly comforting, it quietly redefined our expectations of what this classic dessert could be.  If there’s a standard for torrija in Barcelona, this is it.

Elsewhere, the tomato and piparras salad was fresh and mildly sharp.  The merluza tacos consisted of battered and fried hake combined with miso mayonnaise, reminiscent of Baja-style fish tacos—crisp, savoury, and immensely satisfying.  Then there were the croquettes.  Hands down, the best we had in Barcelona.  Light, almost fluffy inside, with a paper-thin, shatteringly crisp shell.  They disappeared far too quickly and were ordered again without hesitation.  Other delights included cocas cristal con tomate, all crunch and ripe acidity, and crema catalana.

L’Eggs prioritises comfort and offers a few truly memorable dishes. It’s the sort of place you might stumble upon once, then quietly organise your week around.
